Dr. Berger specializes in inflammatory and functional bowel disease, liver disease and reflux disorders. He is a skillful communicator and educator who understands that the personal story of a patientís illness is key to diagnosis and treatment. It is a way of practice that has earned him a special place in the hearts of patients and respect in the medical community. In fact, he was recently listed as one of the US News and World Report "Top Doctors."
He earned his medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, NY, followed by an internship and then residency in internal medicine at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore. He completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, IL. He holds memberships in the American College of Gastroenterology, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. Dr. Berger finds great satisfaction in gastroenterology: the diversity of long-term and short-term illnesses, of high tech procedures and human interaction, and the ability to profoundly help his patients.
Dr. Berger has also assumed key leadership roles at Edward Hospital where he served as the President of the Medical Staff. In addition, he walks the talk of volunteerism. He takes particular pride in his role on the Edward Hospital Foundation Board of Directors, through which he has contributed to numerous projects that benefit Edward Hospital and the surrounding community.
"I love what I do. It is a godsend to be able help people. I would do this again, in a heartbeat."
